Perhaps the extra scrap cost for needing to get shields fairly early and hacking being that much more expensive also really hurts when the game weapon deprives you really hard.Depending what you are after. My favourite ship to play is the stealth A because of how skill intensive it is. I have to get hacking anyways but is a steep price to pay with the stealth A.

Just felt bad losing a run with the balance mod because the game decided to be really stingy and offer me one shop that sold weapons and they are stuff like fire bomb, heal bomb, and heavy ion. I do maximize shop scouting when I want a shop. I got hull laser II because hacking was not even offered till sector 5 and had a really bad sector map that gave no good shop sectors unless I wanted to cross though an abandoned sector to get the green sectors. This allowed me to kill basically any ship with two rounds of hacking. With hacking, I can take down the enemy shields, use the mini beam and dual lasers to take down the piloting and use hull laser II on the hull. I have found the hull laser II to have a very niche use though where it is good on the stealth A. I have bought hull laser II even when I really needed a weapon. Drone control always felt like a waste though unless I have the OP hull repair drone. It can be considered to be a one shot laser with a very fast charge time allowing me to do that type of power micro. 2 power to add 1 laser shot to your volley and high DPS if you manage to take down the enemy shields. I use hacking in nearly every run I do in vanilla. Additionally, a lot of the worst random-screwage offenders cannot happen early (reduced dead beacons in sector 1 as well as removing the worst events like the shield hack). I'd say Balance Mod is probably very slightly easier than vanilla right now - the best stuff is all worse (still good), but having more options has a ton of value.

If you're still not finding enough options, prioritize sectors with more stores and free stuff early - especially Engi Sectors, but also Civilian and Slug (or Rock/Zoltan to a lesser extent). Also keep in mind in addition to Hacking Combat Drones or Teleporters can be weapons as well depending. Things like Missiles and Burst 3 are a ton cheaper now, and can be potentially bought to tide you over until you find something better as appropriate. Burst Laser 1 and it's variants are perfectly fine, Charge 2 is fine, Small Bomb is quite good. When you're considering being offered weapons, are you ignoring viable options that aren't ideal? E.g.

(Slow things of Hacking as even more godly, and has it priced at 150 with super expensive upgrades in the 'Kit, and IIRC he also nixes the Hacking Bypass.) Pondering the option of giving System Casing to the Stealth B as well. The price increase probably hurts the Stealth B more than anything, which is unfortunate, though that at least benefits from cheaper Level 3 Cloaking. It's honestly still cheap for just how ridiculously good the system is.

Falling back on always buying hacking because weapons are never guarenteed is not really a default strategy because hacking is quite a bit more expensive. Do you prefer playing with or without it? I think the balance mod is good. Yeah that one was the first but hasn't been updated in a while - not that it needs to be, i guess.

Bad weapons are also buffed a little bit. Hacking is not much of an auto buy anymore. It more so nerfs the enabler of the game winning weapons through nerfing hacking a ton and raising the cost of cloaking by 10. Originally posted by VIGILO CONFIDO:I only know about the balance mod.
